Officials from communications and broadband giant Comcast have recently announced a low cost high speed Internet program that is designed to help underprivileged kids to enjoy the educational benefits of this technology.

It has been reported that the communications and broadband giant Comcast has unveiled a program that is designed to aid low income households and underprivileged children to enjoy the benefits of high speed internet. This will be done through the launch of a new low cost Internet program called Internet Essentials.

Certain families will be eligible for the program, such as families with children who are on the National School Lunch Program. Comcast believes that this opportunity will enable children who would normally have no access to high speed internet due to costs to enjoy educational as well as social benefits. Democratic U.S. Rep. Gary Peters of Oakland County said: “Access to high-speed Internet is critical for our children to receive the best education possible.”

In order to be eligible families must not have any overdue Comcast bills or be in possession of any unreturned equipment that belongs to Comcast. They must, of course, be in a Comcast service area and must not have subscribed to any Comcast Internet service in the past three months.

Eligible families will enjoy getting high speed internet service for just $9.95 per month and on top of this they will get a voucher for the purchase of a computer up to $149.99. Families will be signed up for at least three years to this program.
