Kansas still lagging in high speed internet stakes

Recent data has shown that Kansas is still lagging behind many others areas when it comes to access to high speed internet services in the area.

High speed internet has become more and more important to households all across the United States over recent years. Families use this technology for everything from entertainment and communication through to education and business.

However, not all households across the United States have the same level of access to high speed internet, which puts some households at a disadvantage. According to recent data, Kansas is still lagging behind the rest of the country when it comes to accessing high speed internet services.

According to data in the Kansas Corporation Commission’s annual report, only around 25 percent or so of people in the area actually have internet services that are fast enough to allow them to stream video or audio. On a national level, 40 percent of households are able to enjoy this facility.

The report stated: “Broadband is a foundation for economic growth, job creation, global competitiveness and a better way of life, but broadband in America is not yet where it needs to be. Similarly, advances in broadband deployment and speeds continue in Kansas, but we are not yet where we need to be.”

Rep. Jim Ward, D-Wichita, said: “We need to get faster broadband out to more Kansans. I don’t know how you can do business in today’s world without high-speed Internet.”
